Rehabilitation of children after oncological diseases is a particularly delicate matter. The building designed for this purpose should also be delicate, as its image will remain in the patients’ memory as a place of rehabilitation, becoming a symbolic space associated with the post-illness period.
The use of natural materials, such as wood, creates a safe and warm space free from associations with hospitals, which can often be unpleasant. The textures and colors of natural materials absorb sound and excess artificial light, creating a soothing, almost meditative atmosphere.
Conditions that encourage focus and balance are suitable for both rehabilitation and learning processes.
The building has been designed to allow maximum access to natural light. Classrooms and rehabilitation rooms without windows in the external façade are illuminated by internal skylight courtyards. These skylights also bring light into the communication corridors.
